Earlier this month, Ms Bacmaga, our trainee Maths teacher, took a group of eleven Year 10 students to the Athelstan Trust Maths Enrichment event at Sir William Romney’s School. The event consisted of a team competition testing students’ understanding of specific topics and opportunities to find out about the different routes available in maths after GCSE.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the day, finding out about the different paths they can take within mathematics after school, including three different options at sixth form or college (A-level Mathematics, A-level Further Mathematics and AS-level Core Mathematics), as well as different careers that lead from taking mathematics further. It was fascinating to see how maths isn’t always the obvious subject required when applying for different courses at university however it is hidden in the most surprising of places!  For example, students witnessed how advanced knowledge of mathematics can create an animation.

All the students involved were passionate about maths which was an amazing environment to be in. Students described the day as enjoyable, challenging, and informative and all have come back feeling inspired.
