On Friday 29 April, Mrs Evans and Mrs Purcell took 36 girls to watch Team Bath Netball vs Saracens Mavericks. The two teams were pushing for play-off netball and were level on points in the table so it promised to be a good match before it even started…

Team Bath kept their fans in almost cardiac suspense until the final seconds before edging the thriller by a single goal, 50-49 at the Team Bath Arena.

The spectators received a peach of a game in which Bath came back from three-down with three-minutes to go to win the final quarter and the game.

“It was amazing, I am so glad to say that we won the game and that we came out on top”,
said Team Bath captain Imogen Allison

The ceiling almost burst off the University of Bath’s Sports Training Village as the home side sealed the deal with a Kim Borger score and kept the opposition from replying. South Africa international Phumza Maweni was named Player of the Match. Her turn-overs proved pivotal in the final period. (Read more from the Team Bath report here)

The students really loved the experience of watching international level players battling it on on court and had the pleasure of a post match selfie and autograph session too.

One of the highlights was having England Coach, Jess Thirlby, and recently retired Team Bath and England Captain, Serena Guthrie, sat right behind us! The two were very gracious to fans, signing balls and t-shirts for the students, and even had a selfie with Mrs Evans who was in top Fan Girl mode!

Mrs Evans said, “The girls were all great company and a pleasure to take. It was such an exciting match and so enjoyable to see the students inspired by the experience.”
