We have OUTSTANDING news from our Library! Looking back at our loan statistics, for the period between 1 September and 2 November 2022, 41 books were borrowed from the library. During the same period this year, we had 449!

Yesterday, Mrs Sirrelle celebrated her first year as our Librarian. She commented: “It’s been so wonderful to see students taking advantage of our great facility. From the Peer Readers project, Book Tasting, regular Spotlights and Bookopoly competition, we have seen a real uptake on reading for pleasure. We also have a staff ‘book swap’ shelf in the library which is regularly taken advantage of. It’s so inspiring to hear staff and students exchanging book recommendations!”

The National Literacy Trust state there is “evidence of an association between school library use and reading attainment. In relation to pupil wellbeing, [the review found that] there was some evidence of an association between school library use and mental wellbeing. Overall, children and young people who used the school library had better levels of reading enjoyment, reading for pleasure, reading confidence, writing for pleasure, writing confidence, and reading attainment than those who did not. They also tended to read and write a greater variety of material relative to non-library users. For children and young people receiving free school meals, library users in this group showed higher reading enjoyment, increased reading and writing for pleasure, and tended to read and write a greater variety of material relative to non-library users.” – Annual Literacy Survey 2019

We will be having a Pre-Loved Book Sale this term and so we welcome any donations of good condition books, suitable for secondary school readers. Please drop them in to the library!
