Mr Bruch’s Year 8 Scientists recently had the opportunity to assist in a lung dissection. After working through the mechanics of a pair of lungs, the group were able to see first hand what the different parts look and feel like. Mr Bruch offered the group the opportunity to feel inside the larynx and trachea, compare muscle, fat and alveoli textures and inflate the lungs using the bellows. There was some great discussion regarding respecting animal parts which have been donated to science, and the students asked insightful questions about both functioning and injured lungs, really getting to grips with how the organ works within the human body. Isn’t science cool?
