Mrs Sirrelle reports: “What an incredible March Month of Reading Madness we’re having! We had a wonderful response to our World Book Day non-uniform day last Thursday, which saw a fantastic array of book characters walking around school. A huge thank you again to everyone who dressed up and donated – we raised more than £900 to boost our library resources, an incredible amount. Here are more great photos from the wonderful staff and student effort. We were blown away by the participation this year! A reminder that our Scholastic Book Fair starts in school NEXT TUESDAY 17 MARCH 2026 and will run for a whole week. This is a great opportunity to browse and buy books, and every purchase goes towards building a better collection for school too! Please support us by visiting and look for a brand new reading bargain! This year, our book fair will be able to accept card payments, as well as the usual cash and online payments.
We also hosted two competitions on World Book Day itself – well done to Harper B and Eva M who both scored a staggering 31/32 on our World Book Day Book Quiz, and another well done to Lettie F who won our book themed Scavenger Hunt around school. These students have all won a £5 voucher to spend at our Scholastic Book Fair.
This weeks competitions include Read with your Pets (email in a photo of you reading with a pet) and Design your own Book Cover (enter in the library by Friday). Please encourage your students to take part – we will be announcing the winners of these competitions early next week.
It is really important to us that World Book Day isn’t just a one-day gimmick- we want to promote reading for pleasure to our students all year around. Our March Month of Reading Madness momentum is still going – we will be hosting Nick Pavone next week, who will be running workshops with KS3 students focusing on graphic novel story lines and illustrations.
We also have students taking part in the Spark! Book Awards this year, and several have entered some fantastic poetry, inspired by the shortlisted books, into the national Spark! Competition. Next week we will also be launching our Carnegie Shadow Jury with a group of enthusiastic readers and book critics.
Finally, our Bookworms and Boosters players are making incredible head way on the game board. 34 players have already read 118 books in the competition and won 10 spot prizes. Congratulations to our students who have already completed the board in an astounding display of ladder-luck and reading dedication – Ella-Louise W and Reuben A, who have won a £15 and £10 book voucher respectively.”
