Book Buzz – 9/11/21

We are very grateful to be part of the Bookbuzz reading programme again this year. Bookbuzz is organised by the BookTrust charity and aims to inspire a love of reading in 11 to 13-year-olds.

Our Year 7 students were given the opportunity to choose their own book from a list of 17 titles to take home and keep. All the books are carefully selected by a panel of experts to ensure quality, suitability and to encourage reading for pleasure. Here are some of our students enjoying their books in the library today.

Safe Drive Stay Alive – 8/11/21

Today our Year 11 students took part in the Safe Drive Stay Alive roadshow.  Safe Drive Stay Alive is a road safety initiative that aims to empower young drivers to make safe driving choices. There is evidence to suggest that young people aged between 16 and 25 years of age are more likely to die or suffer serious injury from a road traffic collision. Safe Drive Stay Alive uses hard hitting performances to inform young people of the dangers and catastrophic effects of poor driving choices. True stories were told by existing emergency service staff and family members who have been directly affected by the tragedy caused by serious road traffic collisions.

Thank you to the staff from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue, Arval, Wiltshire Police and Wiltshire Road Safety Unit who came to deliver the workshop today.

Year 7 A side Interhouse Cross Country – 4/11/21

Another glorious, sunny day for the last day of our interhouse cross country competition.  Last, but by no means least, Year 7 A side took to the course this morning.  Well done to Evie and Ashley who were the first girl and boy to finish.

Mrs Wiltshire and Mrs Harris were gluttons for punishment and ran again today.  Thank you to Mrs Harvey-Evers who ran with the students today too.

Pewter Cast Jewellery and Oak Trinket Box – 3/11/21

Mr Sturla’s Year 10 Design and Technology group enjoyed getting back to “Practical Projects” last term.

Due to COVID regulations a lot of practical lessons were not allowed last year and students were delighted to be using a range of tools and processes again

They have designed and manufactured some stunning Pewter Jewellery  and Oak trinket Boxes with a swing lid.

Students used a wide range of skills and techniques to make these, CAD/CAM, Laser cutting, pillar drills, forstner bits, filing, sanding and finishing skills.

The students really enjoyed making these and I think you’ll agree that they have done a fantastic job!!!!

Well done Year 10.

Interhouse Cross Country Y7 B side – 3/11/21

Year 7’s turn for the interhouse cross country today.  The A side take to the course tomorrow.

Well done to Mrs Wiltshire and Mrs Harris for racing with the students.  Mrs Wiltshire even braved the bog!

Bin It! Assembly with Year 7 – 3/11/21

Bin It! the highly successful anti-littering theatre-in-education roadshow, came to visit our Year 7 assembly this morning. This show, aimed at 11 – 13 year old students, helps persuade audiences that litter is highly damaging to our environment and to recycle more.

Mrs Wiltshire, Head of Year 7, said, ‘The students were fully engrossed with the presentation this morning. They were shocked to hear how many rubbish patches there were in the world’s oceans not just the South Pacific rubbish patch that many of the students were already aware of. Thank you to Persia and Ollie who made the subject of rubbish so entertaining whilst educating the students too. 7R1 were so inspired they asked to go out and collect litter from around the site for the rest of lesson 1!’

Persia and Ollie commented on how well behaved our students were and how so many were already well aware of the damaging impact of litter on our environment.

Interhouse Cross Country Y8 A side – 19/10/21
