Transition to secondary school is a very exciting time, a time of new discoveries and opportunities.  However, it can also be a daunting and stressful prospect.  It is our job to ensure that we do all we can to make the move to ‘big school’ go as smoothly as possible and to ensure each child makes the very best start to their secondary school journey.

Our first correspondence with families was sent out on 1 March 2021.  This letter sets out our plans for the transition period and includes a request for initial information.  You can download a copy of the letter and form here.

Early July sees Year 6 pupils visiting Bradon Forest for two induction days.  In 2021, if Covid regulations allow, we plan to hold these on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 July.  Our new students are usually accompanied throughout the day by our older Peer Mentor Prefect students who will support them during their time in Year 7 too.  We also hold a Parents’ Induction Evening in July to help prepare parents/carers for the change to secondary school.  At this meeting parents/carers will have the opportunity to meet the Headteacher, Head of Key Stage 3, Head of Year and Transition Leader as well as their child’s Tutor.  If Covid regulations allow we plan to hold this meeting on Wednesday 7 July 2021 at 6.00 pm.

During Terms 5 and 6 Mr Johnson, Transition Leader and Head of Year 7, usually visits all the children in their primary school to get to know them and also speaks with their teachers.  In 2021 we hope that these visits will still be able to take place.  If not, we will make arrangements to hold them virtually instead.

For families who are new to the area or who may not have made a formal application yet we would encourage you to do so as soon as possible.  If you are considering a change of choice for your child’s secondary education please make contact with our Admissions Officer, Mrs Austin, on primaryadmissions@bradonforest.wilts.sch.uk.  To find out more about life at Bradon Forest School we have a number of videos available; click here to find out more.
